The short version

The Notes list shows standalone Notes and Notes stored in folders or Hubs. Search their contents, sort the list, or move a Note when you want it to live with a project.

As you collect notes across projects, the Notes list keeps them in one place. From there you can search, sort, and move notes so the right one is easy to find.

Find a note

The Notes list shows every note with its name, where it lives, and when it was created and last updated. To search inside your notes, use the search box and type what you are looking for. Visualist searches the full content of your notes, including the text beyond their titles.

Sort the list

Sort the list by Name, Date updated, or Date created, and switch between ascending and descending order. Sorting by date updated brings the notes you are actively working on to the top.

Move a note into a project

Notes can be standalone items or live in a folder or Hub. To put a Note with the rest of a project, use the move option in its menu and choose the destination. For more on a Hub’s folder structure, see How do I organize a Hub into folders?. To start a new Note, see How do I create a Note?.

Good to know

You can archive a note you are done with to keep it out of the main list while keeping it for reference. Archived notes are read-only until you unarchive them.
