How do I extend or expand an image?
Select an image in Canvas and choose Extender to open Focus mode. Drag one or more edges outward, then select Extend with Vai to create a new image beyond the original frame.
Extender expands an image past its original edges, painting in believable new space so you can change the aspect ratio or give a subject more room. It is one of the Magic tools inside the Canvas editor, and it opens in a larger working view.
Extend an image
- Open the image in Canvas. Open the design or image you want to extend in
Canvas. - Choose Extender. Select the image, then pick
Extenderfrom the toolbar to open Focus mode. - Drag the edges outward. Drag one or more edges to define how much space you want to add.
- Extend with Vai. Select
Extend with Vaito paint the new area on a new image.
Extender creates a new image, so your original stays untouched in your library. The tool is powered by AI and uses credits, which are included with every plan. Results can vary, so you can run it again or extend in smaller steps for a more believable fill.
