How do I rename or edit a color palette?

The short version

Open the palette and use the file menu to rename it inline. To change the colors, edit swatches directly in the palette: click a swatch to recolor it, add or remove swatches, and drag to reorder. Archive or move a palette to the bin to remove it.

A saved palette stays editable. Rename it as a project takes shape, and adjust its colors whenever the direction shifts.

Rename a palette

  1. Open the palette. From your library, open the palette you want to rename.
  2. Rename it. Open the file menu and choose Rename. The name becomes editable in place.
  3. Save the name. Type the new name and press Enter, or click away, to save it.

Edit the colors

Open the palette and edit its swatches directly:

  • Recolor a swatch. Click any swatch to open the color picker and change its color.
  • Add a swatch. Hover the edge of a swatch and use Add color to insert one. A palette holds up to five swatches.
  • Remove a swatch. Use Remove color on a swatch. A palette keeps at least two swatches.
  • Reorder. Drag swatches left or right to change their order.

Remove a palette

To set a palette aside, choose Archive from the file menu, and restore it later when you need it. To delete it, choose Move to bin. Files in the bin can be restored within your plan’s restore window. See How do I delete and restore files?.

Tip

Name palettes for the work. A client or project name makes a palette far easier to find than “blues and grays.”
