How do I create a color palette from an image?

The short version

Open an image, expand Color themes, then open a theme's actions and choose Save as palette. Visualist saves those colors as a separate palette file that you can rename, edit, and reuse in Canvas.

Every image carries color themes that Visualist has read from it. Save any one of those themes as its own palette file when you want to reuse the colors elsewhere.

Save an image’s colors as a palette

  1. Open an image. From your library, open the image whose colors you want to reuse.
  2. Open Color themes. Expand the Color themes section in the image details.
  3. Save a theme. Open Theme actions for the color theme you want, then choose Save as palette.
  4. Rename or edit it. Open the saved palette from your library to rename it or adjust its swatches.
Open an image, choose an extracted color theme, save it as a palette, then open the new palette file.

Reuse your colors

A saved palette is available across Canvas, so you can drop the same colors into moodboards, lookbooks, and documents. See How do I reuse a palette across Canvas?. Because Visualist understands color, you can also search your library by color to find images that match a swatch.

Tip

Build a palette per client or per project early on. Naming it after the work makes it easy to keep every deliverable on the same color story.
