How to move folders, sub-folders and files in Visualist

What moving items means

You can move folders, sub-folders, and files within Visualist to keep your hubs and library organized. When you move an item, all of its children (sub-folders and files) move too, while the parent stays in place.

Why professionals use move to stay organized

  • Personal stylists: Shift client files from “inspiration” into a polished lookbook folder.
  • Interior designers: Move sub-folders of drawings or vendor quotes into the right hub.
  • Wedding & event planners: Consolidate checklists and guest lists into the event hub.

Rules to keep in mind when moving

  • Sub-folders and files always move with their parent.
  • Permissions cascade from the new location. Old hub members may lose access, unless they had direct invites.
  • Direct invites persist across moves.
  • The 3-level folder depth limit applies. Moves that break it are blocked.

Examples of moves in action

  • Moving a top-level folder into a hub: All sub-folders and files follow.
  • Moving a sub-folder between two parent folders: Files come with it.
  • Moving a file: Only that file moves, but direct invites persist.
