Creative Ways to Welcome New Employees to Your Team

A new employee's first day sets the tone for their tone within your company. The more welcomed and supported new hires feel, the quicker they can ease into their role and the more likely they are to succeed.

Understandably your new hire will likely be a little nervous on their first day, but it is crucial that you create a supportive environment that allows them to quickly gel with their colleagues. Thankfully, there are lots of innovative ways to make the onboarding process enjoyable for you, your existing team and, most importantly, your new employee.

As a creative business owner,  you're probably looking for creative ways to welcome new employees and so we've thought outside the box to bring you three innovative ways of welcoming new hires to your team.

Decorate their desk

In-office welcomes are always fun! Everybody is excited to meet new faces, and it's much easier to plan out a small surprise for new hires.

Customising your new hire's workspace is a fun and easy way to welcome them and it doesn't have to be expensive! You can have the team paste short welcome notes on their desk, put up small balloons around their space, or set up a custom desk nameplate for them!

Even better if you could prepare something that is personal to them, their interests, their culture etc. Thoughtfulness is always appreciated!

Get out of the office

Skip the icebreaker questions, and get straight to real team bonding!

Without the pressure of work, your new employees can be themselves and learn about their coworkers in the same way. Not only will new employees and your existing team be able to bond more readily, but it will also give your team a well-earned reward for all their hard work—two in one!

Be creative! You can do after-work karaoke, attend a painting workshop, or go on a team hike or picnic over the weekend.

Create a welcome hamper

A welcome hamper can include handy workplace tools, welcome trinkets, snacks, personalised gifts/cards and more!

You could even make it a more practical gift by including an office guidebook—a manual for office etiquette, roles of other team members, onboarding tools and FAQs. You also include a printout of their daily tasks and schedule.
